A more relaxed way to experience the iconic Flinders Ranges landscape, is to join the special ‘Artists Retreat’ led by renowned Australian landscape artist, Leo Robba, which provides direction and assistance to artists in the field, as well as exclusive access to some of Australia’s most visually spectacular wilderness and outback landscapes.

Participants stay at historic Arkaba Station, a 24,300 hectare property, surrounded by the Elder Range – an ancient, eroded line of red-rock bluffs, and the green rise of the outer walls of the Wilpena Pound ‘amphitheatre’.

The terrain ranges from sandy riverbeds lined with massive, 1000-year old river red gums, to rolling grassland; and rocky outcrops with views over ancient ridgelines to the horizon.

The six-day safari departs in May 2011, and combines four days painting at a variety of locations with fine South Australian food and wines, camping under the stars and classic homestead hospitality.
